Brazilians spent $1.915 billion abroad in February, the Central Bank reported Monday (Mar.  24). This has been the highest figure the bank has ever recorded for February. In the same period of 2013, expenditures totaled $1.862 billion.

In the first two months this year, outbound traveler spending amounted to $4.036 billion, a decrease from a year before ($4.162 billion).

Revenues from foreign visitors to Brazil have totaled $591 million in February this year, compared to $624 million in the same period of 2013. In January-February, revenues totaled $1.234 billion, compared with $1.321 billion in the first two months last year.

With the latest trends, the international travel balance closed out the first two months with a deficit of $2.802 billion as against $2.841 billion last year. The Central Bank forecasts the deficit could get as high as $18.5 billion this year, which is still a slightly smaller margin compared to previously forecast $19 billion.
