Brazil's industrial production grew 0.7% from July to August this year. From June to July, the sector had observed a 0.7% increase after four months on the wane, during which reductions amounted to 3.4%. Figures were released Thursday (Oct 2) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In spite of the month's positive outcome, the industry experienced a 5.4% decline compared to August last year. The industrial output has accumulated 3.1 since the beginning of the year, and 1.8% in the 12-month period.

Comparing August and July 2014, the production of intermediate goods was up 1.1%. Capital goods (equipment plus buildings) held steady. Durable consumer goods, in turn, were down 3% and semi-durable and non-durable goods slipped 0.8%.
