Industrial output down in June
Brazil's industrial production fell from May to June this year in seven of the 14 areas surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The most significant declines were observed in the states of Rio Grande do Sul (-2.3%), Amazonas (-1.1%), and Santa Catarina (-1%); the Northeast saw a drop of -1.1%. Data come from the Monthly Survey on Industry – Regional Physical Production, released Friday (Aug. 7).
A reduced output rate was also reported for the states of São Paulo (the country's most diversified industrial park, (-0.8%), Minas Gerais (-0.5%), and Rio de Janeiro (-0.2%). The seven areas contributed to lowering the national average (-0.3%).
As for the year-to-date, 12 areas faced a decrease, most notably the state Amazonas (-14.8%); whereas Espírito Santo and Pará were the only states to experience a surge. In the 12-month analysis, 11 areas were reported to fall, with Amazonas showing the sharpest reduction (-11.8%); while four presented a positive rate.
