Life expectancy upon birth in Brazil in 2019 was 76.6 years, according to data from the Mortality Table, released today (Nov. 26) by the government’s statistics institute IBGE. The estimate is 0.3 years above that of 2018, published in last year’s survey—76.3 years.

The Mortality Table is published every year by IBGE and utilizes data from July 1 the previous year. The figure is the average of the life expectancy of both sexes.

Life expectancy among men went from 72.8 years in 2018 to 73.1 in 2019, and from 79.9 to 80.1 among women.
