Unemployment in Brazil drops to 7.7% in third quarter

The unemployment rate in Brazil fell to 7.7 percent in the third quarter of this year. In the second quarter, the rate was eight percent and in the third quarter last year, 8.7 percent. The data were released Tuesday (Oct. 31) in Rio de Janeiro by the statistics bureau IBGE.
The level is the lowest since the last quarter of 2014 (6.6%). The jobless population stood at 8.3 million in the third quarter this year, down 3.8 percent from the previous quarter and 12.1 percent less than the third quarter of 2022.
The employed population totaled 99.8 million, up 0.9 percent from the previous quarter and 0.6 percent from the third quarter last year. It is also the highest figure in this time series, which began in 2012.
