The decline—from 8% in the second quarter to 7.7% in the third quarter this year—was mainly driven by the decline in São Paulo state, where the index fell from 7.8% to 7.1% in the period.
The level is the lowest since the last quarter of 2014 (6.6%). The jobless population stood at 8.3 mi in the third quarter this year, down 3.8% from the previous quarter and 12.1% less than the third quarter of 2022.
The percentage is at its lowest since February 2015 (7.5%), and decreased both from the previous quarter—ending in May this year (8.3%)—and from the quarter ending in August 2022 (8.9%).
The proportion is down 0.6 percentage points from the quarter ending in April (8.5%) and 1.2 percentage points from the same period last year (9.1%). “This decline was due to a higher number of people working,” survey coordinator Adriana Beringuy noted.
The unemployment rate, also referred to as the jobless rate, gauges the percentage of individuals actively seeking employment but unable to secure jobs.
