Brazil: Unemployment rate reaches lowest level since 2012
Brazil's unemployment rate, also known as the jobless rate, stood at 6.2 percent for the quarter ending in October. This is the lowest level recorded since the start of the IBGE's Household Sample Survey in 2012.
The previous quarter, ending in July, had a rate of 6.8 percent, while in the same quarter last year, ending in October, the rate stood at 7.6 percent.
The employed population, totaling 103.6 million, also reached a record high, 1.5 percent higher than the average for the quarter ending in July and 3.4 percent higher than the one ending in October.
The unemployed population fell to 6.8 million, representing an 8 percent decrease (591,000 fewer people) compared to the previous quarter and a 17.2 percent drop from October 2023 (1.4 million fewer people). This is the lowest number of unemployed individuals since the quarter ending in December 2014.
