With Neymar’s penalty goal, Brazil’s seleção defeated Japan Monday (Jun 6) by 1–0. The friendly match ahead of the Qatar World Cup 2022 was held at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

The number of goals scored by Brazil’s No. 10 is close to surpassing Pelé’s on the national team. The King of Football, as Pelé is usually referred to, was the highest scorer in history, with 77 goals in 91 games played. With his goal against Japan, Neymar now boasts 74 goals in 119 matches.

Japan are yet to beat the Brazilian team. The two countries have met a total of 13 times in the past, with 11 Brazilian wins and two draws.

Tite’s men return to the field in September, when they should face Argentina in a postponed game as part of the sixth round of the South American qualifiers.

Brazil opens the World Cup on November 24 against Serbia. Next, they should face Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G.
