Brazil continues with four representatives at the World Surfing League
Brazil continues with four representatives in the stage of Jeffreys Bay (South Africa), the ninth of the world surfing circuit World Surfing League (WSL). After advancing in the repechage at the start of the second day of competition, Olympic champion Ítalo Ferreira qualified in the quarterfinals after beating North American Nat Young. Yago Dora and Samuel Pupo are still in pursuit of the title: Dora beat compatriot Filipe Toledo, leader of the ranking, in the round of 16; and rookie Samuel Puppo got the better of Australian Callum Robson. Even leaving the stage early, Filipinho continues to lead the world circuit. In the women's dispute, Tatiana Weston-Webb from Rio Grande do Sul overcame Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica and assured her presence in the semifinals.
The competition continues in the early hours of this Friday (15), with the men's quarterfinals and women's semifinals, and the South African stage may end on the same day, depending on the sea conditions. The match is broadcast live on the WSL website. The first heat of the quarters will be between Samuel Pupo from São Paulo and Australian Jack Robinson, vice-leader of the ranking. Then there will be a rematch of the Olympic final, in a rematch mood: champion at the Tokyo Games, Ítalo will face the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi. Next, Yago Dora from Santa Catarina will face Australian Connor O'Leary in the third heat. Closing the quarterfinals, Australian Ethan Ewing will face off against South African Jordy Smith.
In the women's semi, Tati Weston Webb faces Carissa Moore, leader of the ranking, in the second heat. It will be the fourth semi of the Brazilian against the Hawaiian. Whoever qualifies will face the winner of the other 100% Australian semi, between Stephanie Guilmore and Tyler Wright.
