Mayra Aguiar wins bronze medal at Budapest Judo Grand Slam

Judoka Mayra Aguiar won on Sunday (Jul. 10) the bronze medal in the Judo Grand Slam in Budapest (Hungary). Two-time world champion, and three-time Olympic medalist - also bronze, the Brazilian athlete made her way to the podium in the under-78 kg category by defeating British Emma Reid by ippon (perfect blow), projecting her back to the ground in just over 30 seconds of the fight.

Mayra has competed three times in Budapest. She went straight into the quarterfinals by defeating Venezuelan Karen Leon. In the semifinal, the Brazilian was beaten by Italian Alice Bellandi (who won the gold), for accumulating three shidos (punishments).

Through this competition in Hungary, Mayra will receive 500 points in the world ranking. She has eighth place in the category, and she shall move up to sixth in the next update of the list of the International Judo Federation (IJF), surpassing the Germans Alina Boehm and Luise Malzahn.
