Brazil thrashed 4-1 by Argentina

The Brazilian national team delivered a very poor performance against Argentina on Tuesday night (Mar. 25) at the Monumental de Núñez stadium in Buenos Aires, losing 4-1 in the 14th round of South American qualifiers.
Following the setback, Brazil (4th in the standings with 21 points) has yet to secure its spot in the 2026 World Cup. Argentina, on the other hand, entered the match already qualified for the tournament after a goalless draw between Bolivia and Ecuador, and they remain at the top of the standings with 31 points.
From the opening whistle, Argentina dominated the game and needed just three minutes to take the lead. Thiago Almada flicked the ball on for Julián Álvarez, who scored the first goal. Lionel Scaloni’s side doubled their advantage in the 12th minute when Molina delivered a cross to Enzo Fernández, who had only to tap the ball into the net.
On the other side of the pitch, Brazil struggled to create chances. However, in the 26th minute, they pulled one back thanks to a mistake by Cristian Romero. The Argentine defender mishandled the ball, allowing Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha to seize possession and slot the ball past goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from the edge of the box.
But any hope of a reaction was dashed ten minutes later. Midfielder Enzo Fernández lifted the ball into the box, and Mac Allister arrived at full speed to beat goalkeeper Bento, making it 3-1 in the first half.
Coach Dorival Júnior made several changes at halftime, but the flow of the match remained the same. Argentina sealed their fourth goal in the 25th minute when striker Simeone raced onto a cross and finished to give the Argentinians a 4-1 victory.
