Another medal for Isaquias Queiroz at canoe sprint world championships
One day after securing the gold medal in the C1 500 meters at the Canoeing World Championships in Halifax, Canada, Brazilian Isaquias Queiroz rowed like never before on Sunday (Aug 7) to secure the silver medal in the final of C1 1000m, the event in which he became Olympic champion last year in Tokyo.
The 28-year-old started off second and was overtaken in the middle of the race, falling down to fourth position. But he did not up and fought back in the final 250 meters, with a spectacular start, which earned him second place, 1s52 behind only Romanian Catalin Chirila, who took the gold by crossing the finish line in 4min14s28.
With his second podium spot in the competition, Queiroz raises his collection of medals in the world championship to 14. He now has seven golds, one silver, and six bronzes—not to mention his Olympic achievements: one gold, two silver, and one bronze (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020).
