Brazil will face Poland in the semifinal of the volleyball men’s world volleyball championship this Saturday (Sep 10). Both teams advanced to the next stage Thursday (8). The tournament is being played in the Polish city of Gliwice.

Poland defeated the US 3 to 2. Brazil beat Argentina by 3 sets to 1 (25/16, 23/25, 25/22, and 25/21).

In the duel against Argentina, outside hitter Leal was the highest scorer on court for the second time in a row, with 25 hits: 22 attacks, one block, and two serves.

“The team played really well. We’re happy about this result. I was able to collaborate and I did well, I was able to turn over important balls. Now it’s time to think about the semifinals,” Leal said in a statement to Brazil’s volleyball confederation CBV.

Opposite Wallace was the nation’s second best, with 13 points. Already recovered from a calf pain, outside Lucarelli stepped up the team and scored 12 points.

“Being in another world championship semifinal is a great satisfaction. All our last matches against Argentina were tough. It’s always a complicated match, because they have a type of game we don’t fit well with, with little room for missteps and a lot of back-and-forth. But we managed to do that very well too,” said Lucarelli.
