Brazilian Filipe Toledo wins world surf title

O surfista Filipe Toledo comemora sua quarta vitória na etapa brasileira da Liga Mundial de Surfe (World Surf League/WSL), a terceira consecutiva em Saquarema, e lidera o ranking.

Filipe Toledo from the state of São Paulo on Thursday (Sep. 8) won the World Surfing Circuit title for the first time by defeating also Brazilian Italo Ferreira from Rio Grande do Norte state, at the WSL Finals at Lower Trestles Beach, in San Clemente, California (USA).

Race for the title

The men's race started in great style with Italo Ferreira measuring forces with Japanese Kanoa Igarashi. And just like in Japan, the Brazilian was better, winning 13.37 to 11.83.

Then the Olympic champion Italo easily beat the Australian Ethan Ewing by 13.10 to 11.83.

The Brazilian competed also with Australian Jack Robinson, winning the dispute by 16.10 to 13.30.

Finals

Filipe Toledo and Italo Ferreira competed in the final. Toledo captured his world title with the following results: 15.13 to 14.97 and 10.84 to 1.

He celebrated his victory by thanking God, his family, and his friends. "I still can't believe it [...]. I have to thank God a lot."
