Women's soccer: Brazil beat Germany in last test before World Cup
On Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 11), Brazil emerged victorious in a friendly match against Germany, with a score of 2-1, in front of a crowd of 32,587 fans at the Max Morlock Stadium in Nuremberg, Germany.
Brazil secured their victory over the second-ranked national team in FIFA's rankings, Germany, with goals from Tamires and Ary Borges. This triumph comes after their defeat on penalties against England in the inaugural edition of the women's Final, a match between the South American and European champions. The German team were also the runners-up in the women's Eurocup.
"I think this was one of our best matches. I also mention the match against Australia, which was played a long time ago. But today's match was very good, as well as part of the match against England. We had more minutes in which we did very well, both in defense and attack, especially in attack. And we played against the two best teams in Europe. So, we not only had a good performance, but we also secured a victory," said Swedish coach Pia Sundhage in a press conference after the game.
With this result, 100 days before the World Cup kicks off, the team gained confidence in its quest for an unprecedented title.
Scheduled to take place between July 20 and August 20, the upcoming Women's World Cup is set to be held in Australia and New Zealand.
