Rousseff: fight against corruption stronger than ever
President Dilma Rousseff said on Thursday (Nov 20) that the government has been placing no constraints on the country's corruption probes. Without naming any specific cases, Rousseff said that the fight against corruption has never been as strong as it currently is under her administration.
“The Federal Police, the Public Prosecution Office, and other Brazilian government agencies are investigating both corruptors and the corrupt, and investigations haven't been inhibited in any way. I am not, nor have I ever been or will be, tolerant towards corruptors or the corrupt. We want investigations to be thorough. Brazil will come out of this process a much stronger country, not least for respecting the rules of the state of law in which we live,” the president said.
In her speech at the 2nd National Conference on Education, Rousseff also talked about finance, mentioning her presence at the latest G20 meeting, in Australia, which gathered representatives from the world's biggest economies. During the meeting, it became clear that the effects of the international financial crisis will continue to make themselves felt for a while. She went on to say that the Brazilian government will work to prevent the global economic crisis from translating into unemployment and recession for workers. “After the end of the electoral campaign, the truth started to emerge more clearly: inflation is under control, there are signs of recovery, and the income of Brazilians is still on the rise,” she concluded.
