Federal police arrest former Chief of Staff José Dirceu
Former Chief of Staff José Dirceu was arrested by Federal Police in the federal capital Monday (Aug. 3) as part of stage 17 of Operation Car Wash and is held at the Federal Police headquarters in Brasília. This new stage of the operation was dubbed Pixuleco, a slang code used by the suspects to refer to the kickbacks they received.
About 200 federal police officers served 40 warrants at this stage, 26 for search and seizure, three for detention of suspects, five temporary pre-charge remands, and six bench arrests in Brasília and in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Police also ordered seizure of real estate property and freezing of financial assets.
Crimes investigated included corruption (offering and accepting bribes), criminal conspiracy, forgery, and money laundering. The prisoners will be taken to the Federal Police Superintendency in Curitiba, Paraná, to await further orders.
