Federal Police are inspecting the main building of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday (Aug. 4). The building was occupied for 14 hours by the Landless Rural Workers' Movement (MST) in protest against the government's fiscal adjustment policy that reduced the budget for agrarian reform. The protesters left the building late on Monday (3), but are still camped out on the car park in front of the building.

According to ministry staff, entry into the building will remain restricted until the inspection for property damage is complete. Military police cars are guarding the area and only security personnel is allowed into the building.

MST rallies took place in 18 states and the Federal District. The protesters occupied other buildings of the Ministry of Finance in 12 states.

According to government reports, the Ministry for Agrarian Development had its budget for 2015 cut by 52.8%, shrinking from $1.045 billion to $492.9 million.
