Prosecutor-General denounces José Dirceu
The Federal Prosecution Office (MPF in the original acronym) denounced to justice former Chief of Staff José Dirceu and other 16 people investigated at the 17th stage of Operation Car Wash, carried out by the Federal Police (PF), for the crimes of corruption, money laundering and criminal conspiracy. The decision was announced on Friday (Sep. 4).
Based on statements made by the executive Milton Pascovicth as part of a whistleblower deal, the Federal Police completed this week the investigation that supported allegations against Dirceu. Among the accused are relatives of the former minister, João Vaccari Neto, who is former treasurer of the ruling Workers’ Party (PT), Petrobrás former head of corporate services, Renato Duque, and the former executive of Engevix contractor, Gerson Almada.
The Federal Police investigations have produced proofs that bribes were accepted by the group, which, according to investigations, was masterminded by Dirceu.
Dirceu is in prison for a month at the Federal Police Superintendency building in Curitiba, due to investigations at the 17th stage of Operation Car Wash. On Monday (Aug. 31), following the advice of his lawyers, the former Chief of Staff remained silent during a meeting of the Petrobrás’ Congressional Committee of Investigation (CPI) that was set up by the deputies in Curitiba, where the probes under Operation Car Wash are being conducted.
