Brazilian workers join the general strike and make protests in several cities
In several Brazilian cities, workers of various categories participate today (28) in the general strike called by the trade union centrals, in protest against the labor and welfare reforms. In most cities, public transportation - subway and bus - did not work and schools and bank branches are closed.
In São Paulo, buses, trains and most of the subway lines are standing still. Only a short stretch of the São Paulo subway line, Yellow Line 4, worked in the morning. Commerce is running in the city. And some of the main thoroughfares in the city are blocked by acts of protest
In Rio de Janeiro, protesters block several avenues of the city. According to the City's Operations Center, there are blockades of several avenues
In Brasilia, the federal capital, access roads to Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport have been blocked by protesters, but they are already liberated and traffic flows smoothly. The strike will extend a holiday weekend ahead of Labor Day on Monday.
