President Bolsonaro said Monday (Oct 7) on social media that the Marco Legal das Telecomunicações, a bill outlining a new legal framework for telecom, provides people with more access to the internet by taking broadband connection where investment is not so profitable.

Under the new law, companies acquiring the rights to explore network infrastructure will be allowed to move to a regime with fewer obligations. These firms will have to direct their investment towards expanding and improving infrastructure and the quality of broadband internet. Their commitments must focus on networks with high data communication capacity in remote areas. They will also have to continue providing landline services in remote regions.

The new piece of legislation also allows companies paying to explore frequency ranges to have the right to sell range sections.
