The federal government will publish, in the next edition of the Federal Official Gazette (DOU), a decree that creates the National Intellectual Property Strategy (ENPI) for the period between 2021 and 2030.

According to a note published by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the instrument aims to guide initiatives that "contribute to the country's competitiveness and economic and social development."

“The Strategy will serve as an important instrument to facilitate the coordination and integration of Federal Government policies in the area of intellectual property, respecting the competences of each Ministry and Organ for the execution of Intellectual Property policies”, informs the document.

The decree, signed by President Jair Bolsonaro, defines seven strategic axes to be carried out during Enpi's 10-year term. Are they:

Intellectual Property for Competitiveness and Development
Dissemination, Training and Training in Intellectual Property
Governance and Institutional Strengthening
Modernization of Legal and Infra-Legal Frameworks
Compliance and Legal Security
Intelligence and Vision of the Future
Insertion of Brazil in the Global System of Intellectual Property

The document also establishes a list of 210 actions that will be implemented, in addition to the creation of indicators and targets for monitoring intellectual property processes in Brazil.

Enpi's elaboration process included analyzes of experiences from other countries and workshops held at the beginning of the year in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília. There was also a period of public consultation. The Ministry of Economy received contributions, through an online form, between August and September.
