Brazil unveils international cooperation to publish climate report

Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation announced Thursday (May 4) the first steps toward the Fifth National Communication, the Biennial Update Report, and the Biennial Transparency Reports for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Initiatives will be undertaken in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), and the UN Development Program (UNDP).

The outcome, Science Minister Luciana Santos said, should include technical and scientific strides on climate change and the dissemination of research on the impact of climate change.

Partnership

The international cooperation is to receive $7.5 million in funding from Global Environment Facility, the Climate Convention’s financial entity. The amount will be directed at the conduction of studies to inform the project’s reports as well as decision makers.

“It is a decisive tool that brings together scientific knowledge and parameters for planning effective actions to tackle global warming,” Minister Santos said.

Brazil is expected to unveil its first Biennial Transparency Report in 2024, as per the Paris Agreement, stating the progress of the country’s efforts to meet its targets in the reduction of greenhouse emissions.
