The Brazilian diplomatic mission that will start arrangements for the reopening of the Brazilian embassy in Venezuela is already in the capital Caracas. The diplomatic representation was closed in March 2020, by initiative of the previous government.

According to the ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group is led by Ambassador Flávio Macieira. It has been sent there to assess the conditions of the property and take the first measures aiming the full operation of the Brazilian representation, which will initially have a chargé d'affaires and, later, an ambassador.

"The sending of the mission reflects the Brazilian government's decision to normalize bilateral relations, allowing the resumption of negotiations with the Venezuelan government on the different topics that make up the agenda between the two countries," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

For the ministry, the dialogue with Venezuela, which has an extensive border with Brazil in the North region, in addition to strengthen cooperation in several areas, is fundamental to revitalize the regional integration desired by the new government.

The relations between both countries were formally resumed on January 2, right after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva`s inauguration.
