Brazilian gov't condemns attack in Iran
On Wednesday (Jan. 3), Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement condemning the explosive attack in the city of Kerman, Iran. It occurred during a ceremony marking the four-year anniversary of the death of General Qassem Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The attack resulted in the death of around 100 people.
"In expressing its condolences to the families of the victims and its solidarity with the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brazil reiterates its strongest repudiation of any act of terrorism," the note reads.
Soleimani, a prominent military leader in Iran, was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, on January 3, 2020, in a drone strike ordered by then-President Donald Trump of the United States.
Iranian authorities have stated that the explosions near the Kerman cemetery on Wednesday were terrorist attacks. As of now, no group or country has claimed responsibility for the act.
