The Office of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights has called on the Brazilian authorities to find and punish all those involved in the anti-democratic attacks of January 8, 2023, including those who financed and planned them.

The message was released by UN spokesperson Liz Throssell on Monday (Jan. 8), one year after the ransacking of the Brazilian government headquarters.

In the text, she states that Brazilian society needs to “know the whole truth” about what happened: “People in Brazil need to know the whole truth and there must be no impunity, neither for those who carried out the attacks, nor for those who ordered, financed, or facilitated them,” the statement reads.

“We call on the authorities to conduct impartial, effective, and transparent investigations in a timely manner to bring those responsible to account, in accordance with international human rights standards,” she added.
