The second flight of Operation Cedar Roots landed at São Paulo Air Base on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at 6:58 a.m., carrying 227 passengers and three pets.
Air Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, commander of the Air Force, stated that Operation Cedar Roots will continue, with the goal of repatriating approximately 500 Brazilians each week.
An estimated 20,000 Brazilians reside in Lebanon. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 3,000 Brazilians have expressed a desire to leave the country due to the intensifying military operations by the Israeli Armed Forces.
First phase
The first group of 229 repatriated Brazilians arrived at São Paulo Air Base on Sunday morning (Oct. 6).
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva greeted the group upon their arrival and delivered a brief speech, condemning Israel's actions for “killing innocent people, including women and children, with no regard for human life.”
“Brazil is a generous country and has no disputes with any country in the world because we don't want war. War only destroys. What builds is peace,” stated the president.
