President Lula to attend Pope Francis’ funeral

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva will travel to Italy on Thursday (Apr. 24), to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.

The Brazilian presidential delegation will also include the presidents of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre; the House of Representatives, Hugo Motta; and the Supreme Court, Luís Roberto Barroso.

Pope Francis’ farewell ceremonies are taking place in St. Peter’s Basilica, from where his casket will be taken on Saturday for burial in the Basilica of St. Mary Major, in accordance with his wishes.
