The body of Juliana Marins was recovered on Wednesday (Jun. 25) from the crater of Mount Rinjani by Indonesian rescue teams. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) confirmed the information in an interview with a local TV station.

The Brazilian tourist was hiking along the edge of the volcano when she fell into the crater and slid for hundreds of meters on Saturday morning (21). Due to varying weather conditions, difficult terrain, and logistical challenges during the rescue operation, she could not be rescued in time.

It was not until Tuesday (24) that a rescue worker reached her, but the Brazilian had already passed away.

Tribute

Manoel Marins, Juliana Marins’ father, paid tribute to his daughter on social media.

“At the beginning of this year, you told us that you wanted to take this backpacking trip while you were still young, and we supported you. When I asked if you wanted us to give you some money to help with the trip, you said, ‘Never.’ You traveled with your own resources—money you earned through your work. And how happy you were to fulfill that dream. And how happy we were to see you so happy. You left doing what you loved most, and that brings some comfort to our hearts,” he concluded.
