The autopsy carried out by coroners in Indonesia concluded that Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins died of internal bleeding caused by damage to organs and bone fractures. The injuries are said to have stemmed from blunt force trauma a few hours before the body was retrieved.

Death is believed to have occurred less than 20 minutes after the bleeding began. The team also ruled out hypothermia, as there were no signs of tissue damage on the fingers. The final result of the autopsy, which will also include toxicology tests, is expected in two weeks.

Juliana Marins was hiking on Mount Rinjani on the Indonesian island of Lombok last Saturday (Jun. 21), when she fell into the volcano’s crater. The Brazilian waited alive for rescue for probably three or four days, but when the rescue teams reached her, they found that she had already died.

On Thursday evening (26) Brazilian time, her father, Manoel Marins, said he was still in Lombok waiting for the death certificate so he could have his daughter’s body brought back.

On Friday (27), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva published a decree that will allow the Brazilian government to pay for the transportation of Juliana Marins’ body.

“The federal government will provide all the necessary support to Juliana Marins’ family, including the transportation of her body to Brazil. I’m going to issue a new decree so that the Brazilian government takes on the responsibility of paying for the costs of Juliana’s transfer to Brazil so that her family and friends can say goodbye to her with all the affection and love she deserves,” the president wrote on his Instagram profile on Thursday (26).
