The 2022/2023 grain harvest is expected to reach 312.4 million tons, while the previous harvest stood at 271 million tons, an increase of 15.32 percent. Soybeans and corn together should produce 279 million tons.

According to the head of the National Supply Company Conab Guilherme Ribeiro, the increase is due to the increase in 3 percent of the planted area and the good weather. "The prices will continue to be very attractive for soybeans and we are expecting exports of around 96 million tons, an increase of 22.5 percent over last year's harvest," Ribeiro said in an interview to state radio program A Voz do Brasil, on Tuesday (Oct 18).

The state of Mato Grosso is the main producer of grains, with an estimated production of 89 million tons, Ribeiro explained.

Rice and beans

Rice and beans are the main products consumed by Brazilians in their meals, but even with a reduction in the planted area, the necessary production for domestic consumption will be maintained. A production of 11 million tons of rice and 3 million tons of beans is expected for this harvest. "It is more than enough to feed the Brazilian population and have a consumption surplus,” Ribeiro said.
