President Dilma Rousseff resumed the talks concerning the guidelines for the administrative overhaul in a meeting held Tuesday morning (Sep. 29) with vice-President Michel Temer, also head of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB). Temer reiterated he would give Rousseff leeway to make her own decisions by not appointing anyone on his party's behalf to occupy positions.

The meeting took place at the presidential palace and lasted some thirty minutes. Also present were Communications Minister Ricardo Berzoini, who has been working as the government's political negotiator and is likely to retain the job after the reform is carried out.

Last week, the president met with leaders from a number of political parties before flying to New York for the UN General Assembly. The government has pledged to have ten of the 39 ministers shut down by September.

Temer had been consulted over the new set of ministries before, but chose not to mention names, which was a job for PMDB representatives in the two congressional houses. On Monday (28), he said that “the PMDB is a large party,” that there is not enough room for everybody in the government, adding, however, that the party will be represented as Rousseff sees fit.
