President Dilma Rousseff reiterated Wednesday (Dec. 9) that she has not committed any crime as head of state. "I have not committed any wrongful act. They have been questioning me not because the government has embezzled money, nor because we have used unauthorized money. It is an action because they disagree with the way in which we have conducted the accounting practices of expenses," she added.

Last week, Lower House Speaker Eduardo Cunha initiated impeachment proceedings of the president, for the request filed by lawyers Hélio Bicudo, Miguel Reale Junior, and Janaína Paschoal. They presented as argument the recommendation of the Federal Accounts Court (TCU) to reject 2014 accounting practices of Dilma Rousseff's government, because they have failed on time to transfer funds to state-led banks Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil. The funds were related to expenses on government's social programs, which would be considered credit operation. In addition, the president signed five decrees for additional funds without congressional authorization.

"There has been no crime, we are not involved in any crime. I'll give continuity to Minha Casa, Minha vida [affordable housing] program. We are not challenging anyone. We'll slow down the pace a bit because we will have to pay all benefits at once. I want to continue in the presidency, first because I was elected. But also because I'm sure that  in the last 500 years, no one in Brazil has made a housing program for the country's poorest people," reported Rousseff.

During the ceremony, the president handed over 2,992 units of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida affordable housing program. Other housing units have been simultaneously delivered in seven cities, from five states, totaling 10,962 houses.
