The Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) today (June 8) resumed the hearings on the lawsuit filed by the PSDB party against the ticket headed by Brazil's former president Dilma Rousseff for abuse of political and economic power in her re-election bid to the presidency in the 2014 race. This is the third hearing in the trial that could unseat President Michel Temer, then Rousseff's running mate and vice-president of the country.

Yesterday (7), Herman Benjamin, the justice reporting on the case, turned down three preliminary issues raised by Rousseff's and Temer's defenders, one of which was a motion to exclude plea bargain testimonies given by executives of Odebrecht construction company from the case. The other six justices of the court are expected to hand down their opinions on the issue this morning.

In their testimony, Odebrecht executives reported millions of reais in donations to the 2014 campaign. The defense lawyers also want to annul the statements of Mônica Moura and João Santana, the marketers leading the campaign. They said they had received illegal money abroad.

Rousseff's and Temer's lawyers argue, among other reasons, that these alleged irregularities were not part of the PSDB's original charges, so they should not be considered in the case.

Two other hearings are slated for today at 2 and 7 pm.
