Brazil’s President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro is presiding at the first cabinet meeting, expected to be attended by all 22 ministers tapped. The assembly is slated to take place today (Dec. 19) in Granja do Torto, Brasília, at the facilities used by him as residence in the city.
Yesterday (18), a number of future ministers met with their teams at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (CCBB), in Brasília, which has served as cabinet for the officials working in the government transition since November 5. They spent the day outlining the top issues to be tackled as of January. This should also discussed at the cabinet meeting with Bolsonaro.
In a social media broadcast yesterday, Bolsonaro admitted “things are going to be tough” after he takes office, and urged everyone to help him rule.
“This is the big day: January 1, when we start our administration. More than ever, I need you by our side because things are going to be tough. No one would believe it. No one in power believed this victory. Will have problems in the future? Yes. But I believe in God and in your support.”
Bolsonaro plans to return to Rio de Janeiro in the evening. Then, he’ll return to Brasília days before the inauguration ceremony, on January 1.
