On Sunday (Jul. 28), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that the world “believes in Brazil again,” attributing this shift to the Brazilian government’s “active and assertive” diplomacy. In a national address, Lula reviewed his first year and a half in office, highlighting economic and social achievements and emphasizing Brazil’s reentry into the international arena.

“Brazil has regained its leading role on the world stage. We participate in all major international forums. Brazil has returned to the world, and the world will now pass through Brazil,” said Lula, referring to the G20 Leaders' Summit scheduled for November in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil currently holds the G20 presidency, a group comprising 19 countries and two regional bodies (the African Union and the European Union).

He mentioned Brazil's proposals within the bloc, such as the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and a tax on the super-rich. “We cannot remain silent in the face of a tragedy affecting 733 million men, women, and children around the world. To make the world fairer, we are presenting the proposal to tax the super-rich at the G20, where several countries have already endorsed it,' he explained."

In 2025, Brazil will host both the Brics summit, which includes 10 developing countries, and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in Belém.

Among the highlights of his current administration, the president cited economic growth, inflation control, the revival of social programs and investments, job creation with formal contracts, renewed policies for protecting social minorities, prioritization of environmental protection, and the development of strategies for an energy transition to combat climate change.

“Brazil has rejoined civilization,” President Lula added.
