Last batch of tickets for Rio 2016 opening ceremony on sale

The $320 million sales target for the Olympics has already been met

The sale of tickets for the Rio 2016 Games, which began in March 2015, hit the $320 million sales target on the first day of the games on Wednesday (Aug. 3), with the women's football debut, the Organizing Committee reported.

To celebrate the milestone, the committee released a new batch of tickets for sale as of Thursday (4), for the Olympics opening ceremony at Maracanã stadium on Friday (5). With prices ranging between R$200 ($61) and R$4,600 ($1,410), this will be the last call according to the Committee.

So far, 80% of the 6.1 million tickets released for sale have been sold (4.9 million tickets), with prices ranging from R$40 ($12) to R$1,200 ($370) for sports events and R$200 ($61)-R$4,600 ($1,410) for the opening and closing ceremonies. There are still 1.2 million tickets available.

The most popular sports are football, beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, and athletics. The highest demands come from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, and the Federal District. According to the committee, foreign purchases have accounted for 25% of ticket sales.

The sports with the largest number of available tickets are football, athletics, handball, and basketball. Tickets can be purchased online or at official ticketing centers. Online purchases can be paid in up to three installments (interest free) with Visa cards. At ticketing centers, one-off payments are accepted in cash or with a Visa debit or credit card.
