After three months in a tour in Brazil, the Olympic torch arrived by boat in Rio, crossing the Guanabara Bay on Wednesday (Aug. 3) morning and reached the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games.

When arriving at the naval base carried by the Olympic athlete, sailor Lars Grael, the Olympic flame was handed to Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes, in an official ceremony, attended by Acting State Mayor Francisco Dornelles, and the chairman of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and Rio 2016 Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman.

Paes was the first torchbearer in the city, until close to the mall next to the Santos Dumont Airport, where he passed it on to Rebeca Morais dos Santos, 9th-grade student of the Experimental Olympic Gymnasium Juan Antonio Samaranch, in Santa Tereza.

In Cinelandia, downtown Rio, the flame was carried by street cleaner Renato Sorriso, who used the Olympic torch to light the first special Rio 2016 monument in the city.
