Brazil’s national sanitary watchdog Anvisa received an alert today (Apr. 14) from the FAO/WHO International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) on an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium in Kinder chocolates. The warning, however, does not include Brazil on the list of countries to which the products were distributed.

In a note, Anvisa states it has monitored data from European authorities on cases of Salmonella Typhimurium linked to the consumption of Ferrero chocolates, manufactured in Belgium and distributed to a number of countries.

Ferrero representatives in Brazil reported that the contamination occurred in a plant in Arlon, Belgium, where operations have been halted.

The firm also declared it has initiated the recall of the products in all countries of destination, adding the contamination does not affect chocolates sold in Brazil.

As a preventive measure, the agency advises consumers to check the label with the manufacturer’s data, especially from Arlon, in Belgium.

The Kinder products made at the factory in question are: Kinder Surprise Maxi 100g, Kinder Surprise 1x20g, Kinder Surprise 3x20g (60g), Kinder Surprise 4x20g (80g), Kinder Schokobons WHITE 200g, Kinder Schokobons 200g, Kinder Schokobons 125g, Kinder Schokobons 300g, Kinder Mix Peluche 133g, Kinder Mix Advent Calendar 127 g, Kinder Mini Eggs Hazelnut 100g, Kinder Mini Eggs Mix 250g, Kinder Happy Moments 162g.
