Brazil reports 6.1 mi cases of dengue in six months
Brazil ended the first half of 2024 with 6,159,160 probable cases of dengue and 4,250 deaths from the disease. A total of 2,730 deaths are reported to be under investigation. The disease’s incidence coefficient in the country now stands at 3,033 cases for every 100 thousand people, with a lethality rate of 0.07.
Data released Monday (Jul. 1) show that the majority of probable cases of dengue fever in 2024 were among women (54.8%), compared to 45.2 percent among men.
Age
In all, 49.6 percent of the occurrences were identified among white people, 42.5 percent among brown people, 6.2 percent among black people, and 0.3 percent among indigenous people. The 20–29 age group accounts for the majority of victims, followed by people aged 30–39 and those aged 40–49.
In absolute numbers, São Paulo state leads the way with 1.9 million occurrences, followed by Minas Gerais (1.6 million), Paraná (626.8 thousand), Santa Catarina (350.6 thousand), and Goiás (301.5 thousand).
