Brazil resumes production of CoronaVac to immunize children

New doses are being produced by the Butantan Institute. The amount ordered by the Ministry of Health—1 million doses—is expected to be delivered in September.

The immunizer had been approved on January 17, 2021, for adults and children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years. The authorization provides only its emergency use.

Brazil drug authority receives data on CoronaVac for 3–5-year-olds

The sending of information was agreed at a meeting on May 25 between the institute and Anvisa, which will now proceed with the evaluation of the request.

Institute requestes recommendation to vaccinate children aged 3 to 5

In case the request is granted by Brazil’s drug regulator Anvisa, Coronavac may be the first vaccine against coronavirus authorized for children from 3 years onwards.

Brazil drug regulator allows CoronaVac for kids aged 6–17

The decision was unanimous. In all, five directors voted for the authorization.The dose was banned for immunosuppressed children and adolescents.
