Institute requestes recommendation to vaccinate children aged 3 to 5

Anvisa has seven working days to assess the request

Brazil’s national drug regulator Anvisa received a request from Brazilian Butantan Institute to include children from 3 to 5 years in the group recommended to receive the Coronavac vaccine.

The agency shall release an assessment about the request within seven working days starting on Monday (Mar. 14).

“The technical analysis will be carefully carried out,” informed Anvisa, after receiving the request on Friday (Mar. 11).

In case it is granted, Coronavac may be the first vaccine against coronavirus authorized for children from 3 years onwards.

Currently, pediatric immunization against COVID-19 is allowed for childres from the age of 5, but only the Pfizer vaccine is authorized for this age group. Children from the age of 6 can receive either a Pfizer or Coronavac shot.
