Butantan delivers another 5 mi doses of CoronaVac to Brazil
Butantan Institute today (Mar. 29) released another 5 million doses of vaccine CoronaVac for Brazil’s National Immunizations Program, PNI. In March, 19.3 million doses have been delivered—more than the amount made available in January and February.
The new shipment brings the total of vaccines Butantan has delivered to the program to 32.8 million doses since January 17. By the end of April, the total amount of vaccines provided by Butantan will have reached 46 million.
According to data from the São Paulo state government, Butantan is expected to deliver another 54 million doses for vaccination by August 30, adding up to 100 million jabs. As it stands today, 85 percent of the vaccines available in the country against COVID-19 come from Butantan.
Vaccine production has kept a steady and quick pace, the institute reported. “On March 4, a shipment of 8.2 thousand liters of active pharmaceutical ingredient, enough for 14 million doses, landed in São Paulo for local production. Another 11 thousand liters, sent by biopharmaceutical company Sinovac—the international partner in the development of the most used inoculation in Brazil against COVID-19—arrived in the country in February,” Butantan reported.
