The construction began in 2019, in a partnership between Itaipu Binational, led by Brazil and Paraguay, and Paraná state, totaling an investment of BRL 463 million.
The investigated would have formed a criminal organization to clandestinely introduce into the country, through the Guaíra border, in Paraná, cigarettes smuggled from Paraguay.
About four thousand Brazilian military agents, in addition to officials from other federal, state, and municipal bodies have been mobilized in Brazil since July 18.
The agreement is believed to represent “Brazil’s gradual rapprochement with the Asian continent, a priority in the country’s foreign and economic policy”, the Ministry of Economy said.
The workers were found during an operation carried out on Friday (Jul. 8) by the General Department for Combating Corruption, Organized Crime, and Money Laundering.
