The fifth Brazilian Air Force flight rescuing Brazilians from Lebanon arrived on Monday morning (Oct. 14) at São Paulo Air Base, in Guarulhos. On board were 220 returnees and two pets. The flight was part of Operation Cedar Roots, coordinated by the federal government.

Started on October 2, the operation has repatriated 1,105 Brazilians and 14 pets from Lebanon. According to the Air Force, 43 tons of donations—including hospital supplies and food baskets—have also been transported to help victims in Lebanon.

The logistics involve the use of aircraft and personnel from the Brazilian Air Force and intense coordination by the Foreign Ministry. The Brazilian community in Lebanon is reported to number some 20 thousand people, of whom approximately 3 thousand have expressed a desire to return to Brazil.
