The number of salaried people working in the industrial sector closed out the month of August down 0.8% from the previous month. This has been the eighth consecutive decline in industrial employment, totaling a cumulative rate of -5.6% in 2015. The figures were released today (Oct. 16) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The year-to-date decline reflects negative figures in the eighteen industries surveyed. The most significant contributions to the national average came from transport (down 10.4%), machines and electronic and communication equipment (-13.1%), metal products (-10.5%) and machinery and equipment (-7.2%).
