Brazil's unemployment rate stood at 12.2% in the three-month period ending in January—which represents 12.7 million jobless people. The rate is stable if compared to August–October, 2017.
The data are being released in detail today (Feb. 28) by the Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute (IBGE), which publishes its Continuous PNAD (National Household Sample Survey). Compared to the same period last year, from November 2016 to January 2017, the rate slipped 0.4 percentage points.
The unemployed population amounted to 12.7 million people and the employment rate in the country reaches 54.2%, a total of 91.7 million people. In a comparison with the same period last year, a 2.1% hike (1.8 million people) was reported for employment.
