In response to Italy’s Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini, Brazil’s President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro said on his Twitter account today (Dec. 14) that Italian Cesare Battisti, whose arrest has been ruled, will be extradited as far as he is concerned. The message was sent by Bolsonaro in both Portuguese and Italian.

“Thank you for the usual consideration, Italian minister of the interior. May everything be brought back to normal in the case concerning this murderous terrorist, defended by his ideological companions in Brazil. Count on us.”

“Credit”

The comment came as a response to Salvini’s tweet: “I will give President Jair Bolsonaro much credit if he helps Italy make justice, sending Battisti the ‘gift’ of a future in prison in the fatherland.”

In the same post, Salvini reveals he is annoyed to know that Battisti, sentenced to life in jail in Italy, is enjoying Brazilian beaches. Battisti lives in the house of friends in coastal Cananeia, São Paulo.

Yesterday (13), Supreme Court Justice Luiz Fux ordered Battisti’s immediate imprisonment, implying his extradition is in the president’s hands.
