Brazilian players displaced to Romania land in Brazil
Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Relations has reported the remaining football players and family members who left Ukraine following Russia’s military action landed in Brazil on Tuesday (Mar. 1). The group was in Bucharest, capital of Romania, and returned on a commercial flight.
“The Embassy of Brazil in Romania provided support to 40 Brazilians, football players, and their family members, who left Ukraine through the border with Romania. They play on a number of Ukrainian football teams,” the ministry wrote on its social media.
The ministry further reported that transportation to Bucharest was paid for by the Union of European Football Federations (UEFA). One of the Brazilians in the group plans to return to Ukraine “should the conflict end soon,” and decided to stay in Romania for the next few days, the statement also mentions.
Release
The Russian offensive in Ukraine has reached the country’s capital Kiev. As a result, the Brazilian embassy has released a statement advising all Brazilians still there to leave Kiev “urgently,” and head for the borders with Poland, Romania, or the northern border of Moldova.
On its Telegram group chat, the embassy has shared the schedules for trains leaving Kiev. People seeking to leave the capital must go to the capital’s central station before the 8 pm curfew begins.
Brazilians in the cities of Kharkiv and Kherson are advised to to stay where they are, seek shelter, and keep Brazilian authorities posted.
For those planning to leave the country by car, the embassy stated roads leading to Poland are “relatively safe.”
“Brazilians in other areas in the country are recommended to assess personal safety conditions and, if possible, to take a train to the nearest border, reporting the embassy on their displacement,” the Brazilian embassy in Kiev declared.
