Rock in Rio: 110 tons of waste collected in two days
The Municipal Garbage Collecting Company Comlurb collected 110.5 tons of waste in the first two days of the ninth edition of the Rock in Rio music festival. The event began last Friday (Sep. 2) at the Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together famous names in national and international music.
Over one thousand garbage collectors have been working at the event daily, sweeping public circulation areas, lawns, food courts, VIP area, backstage, arenas, the velodrome, as well as the access roads to the City of Rock.
Comlurb is also responsible for the correct disposal of the garbage, separating recyclable residues that are sent to collectors' cooperatives chosen by the organizers of the festival, which sell them to recycling companies, generating jobs and income.
Organic residues are taken to Comlurb's Caju EcoPonto, where they are used for composting and transformed into biogas for energy, biofuel or soil conditioning generation, in the biomethanization unit, the first one in Latin America. To promote the correct disposal of waste, about two thousand containers have been distributed, both inside and outside the City of Rock.
After the attractions of last Sunday (Sep. 4), Rock in Rio makes a pause and starts again next Thursday (8) until Sunday (11).
